The first homes were constructed in the late "60"s and the final section of single-family homes and villas were built in the late "80"s.

Since the homes are categorized as condominiums there is a monthly maintenance fee. The fees range from $185 per month to $220 a month, depending on the unit. All fees include the care of the outside of the home, all lawn care, basic cable, escrow reserves, maintenance of recreation buildings and common areas. Many fees also cover the repair and/or replacement of roofs.

Activities are a very important part of life in The Mainlands. Whether it's bridge or bingo, shuffleboard or water aerobics, there's something for everyone. Weekly get-togethers over coffee allow newcomers the opportunity to meet neighbors soon after moving in. Pancake breakfasts, holiday dinner dances, and a variety of bus trips are regular functions here.

A great addition to the community is the 18-hole golf course located in the center of The Mainlands. Although the course is open to the public, it's widely used by the residents year-round. Close by you will find a new Super Wal-Mart and many churches, stores, banks, a wide variety of restaurants, and health care facilities.
